Description
Daniel Arsham. Mobile Phone, 2013. Plaster and broken glass. 11.625 x 1.75 x 2.5 inches. Edition of 500 individually packaged in custom box. $250.00. OHWOW is pleased to announce the release of Daniel Arsham’s first Future Relic – a new series of multiple objects, created as limited-editions of 500. Mobile Phone is the initial piece introducing his series, which presents an archetypal brick phone that he casts from a mixture of plaster and glass particles. Arsham’s petrified objects serve as anthropological relics, in this case a mimic of an early cellular phone. He imagines these objects buried for years, later discovered in an archeological dig, but regardless of specific time lapse, a Future Relic signifies obsolete technology – a signal of human progress or an entropic future. To accompany the release of Mobile Phone, Arsham will premiere a 10 minute film that he created to contextualize the “discovery” of this specific object, serving as a theatrical narrative. As with the forthcoming releases of the Future Relic series, each edition will be paired with a short film, eventually culminating in a full-length feature, to supplement the complete series of objects.
