In celebration of NGV Triennial 2020, the NGV has collaborated with artist Daniel Arsham on a limited-edition exclusive to the NGV design store. MODERN ARTIFACT 001 is a sculpture made of plaster and cast resin. This to scale replica of a baseball hat is produced by Archive Editions and inspired by the original Arsham work (Blue Calcite Hat, 2016), made of blue calcite and hydrostone. MODERN ARTIFACT 001 is 12.7 cm in height with a 19.5 cm diameter and weighs 1.3kg. The successful rendering of soft materials has led to many other projects in Arsham's practice. MODERN ARTIFACT 001 comes in Arsham studio designed housing with die cut foam, sealing label, and a pair of white Archive Editions art handling gloves. This is an edition of 500 pieces, and each MODERN ARTIFACT 001 includes an Archive Editions holographic label verifying its edition number and authenticity. The edition is co-branded and produced in partnership with the NGV.
