Taking the psychological aspect of space as a starting point, Crow transposes the familiar architectural forms into the uncanny, the nostalgic, the melancholy and the anxious. Through the use of ornamentation, artificial and anachronistic decors, the architecturally superficial interiors imply the construction of history itself through its spatial dimension, confronting the psychological unsteadiness of history. The use of corrosive colors and extreme vertical framing is claustrophobia and vertigo inducing. It is a voyeur’s view from above, almost existing in disintegrating phantasmagoria. The carpet pattern becomes confetti littered on abandoned stairwell, streamers of spray paint disrupt the space, ghostly remnants of an event just missed or specters haunting the scene. The shadowy and fractured architecture seems to exist momentarily, as if only to vanish and fold into the next historical layer.
