Description

C-print. 64.8cm x 44.0cm. Edition of 50. Studio Voltaire has commissioned the celebrated American photographer Ryan McGinley to produce a new limited edition work which is available exclusively to Patrons and Programme Patrons of the gallery. The image is taken from McGinley’s acclaimed Animals series, a body of work that consists of colour studio portraits of live animals and nude models. The artist visited various animal sanctuaries, zoos and rescue centres across the United States, erecting a mobile studio to record the interaction between the animal and the model. McGinley’s photographs are included in the collections of The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., and many others. The 34 year-old artist has had solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Art and at MoMA PS1 in New York, at the MUSAC in Spain, and at the Kunsthalle Vienna. This edition follows a series of editions that have been produced as a part of Studio Voltaire’s Benefactors Scheme. Previous artists in this series include Simon Periton and Henrik Olesen. This new edition is exclusively available to Programme Patron and Patrons of Studio Voltaire as one of the complimentary benefits to the scheme.
