Patrick Martinez is known for his mixed-media paintings and punchy, political taglines. EMERGENCY, an edition of 20, is a neon sign spelling out the work's title, however, only the first half of the word, "EMERGE," is lit up. Inspired by Rebecca Solnit's book, Hope in the Dark, the work proposes that positive change can come from difficult times.
