One Deck of Cards. Geometric Suits. Tauba Auerbach. New York, NY : DZEK. 2009. Tauba Auerbach designed this limited edition deck of playing cards where the suits have been transformed into geometric shapes (triangle, square, circle, cross). The deck utilizes a custom font created by Auerbach as well as backside patterns drawn from Auerbach's 50/50 series. The cards are snugly housed inside an embossed, cloth-covered slipcase that is hand-numbered by the artist. The shapes deck uses four geometric shapes as suits, representing the original suits. in a abstract way. this deck uses red and black on white with the royal family represented. as platonic solids like the functions deck. jokers are represented by scribbles and amoebas. auerbach creted original art and three new typefaces - king, queen, knave - for the project.
