Case Studyo is excited to present its first collaboration with Brooklyn-based painter Royal Jarmon. The self-taught artist presents a truly original vision and novel approach to depicting the human condition, unrestrained by traditional guidelines. Strange fascinations and curious obsessions form the common thread that binds Jarmon's eclectic body of work together. His paintings are often filled with juxtapositions of junk in perplexing perspectives rendered in a mix of techniques. For his collaboration with Case Studyo, Royal zooms in on a recurring subject in his work; the BIC lighter. A seemingly banal object that holds a special place in the artist's heart, sparking fond memories of growing up on the family farm; from burning stuff as a young rascal to sneaking off to smoke his first cigarettes. The work is aptly titled 'the red flower', referencing Jungle Book and the term the animals used to describe the fire of civilization. In the landscape of modern art, Royal Jarmon is a rare beast, roaming free and offering his truly unique take on the world surrounding him.
