Lauren Nickou has produced an ongoing series of works exploring a set of famous medieval tapestries that chronicle the story of the search and capture of the elusive unicorn. The Unicorn in Captivity, with the unicorn resting behind a low fence beneath a bountiful tree of pomegranates, is considered a symbolic attachment of the lover to their beloved. The unicorn could easily step out if it wished from its enclosure, but chooses to remain, loyal to its keeper. Nickou's homage blooms out of expressive, fluid strokes delineating abundant foliage and the wispy curls of the unicorn's mane and tail.
