The name of this edition of lithographs is coming from the declinaison of the name Lowis – Ludovicus - in Latin. Indeed it refers to the meaning of the classical Latin name Ludovicus which means « victorious in athletic games ». In Latin, Ludus was meaning « game » and Vicus « winner ». RETNA chose also to refer to the name of the first French King Clovis whose name turns into Clouis and then Louis. Thus, these lithographs are a contemporary symbol of the name « Ludovicus » as someone glorious in war.
