Edition Size: 5. 22 x 28 Inches. Archival Pigment Print on 290gsm Moab Fine Art Paper. $150.00. "The painting 'Black Hole' is one of a series of works from my last exhibition 'Once Removed' in 2016. The painting took around 6-8 weeks to complete and is oil on linen and 140 x 110cm. I was interested in exploring a modern day tale of consumerist alienation and the 'Society of the Spectacle' where authentic social life is replaced with its representation leaving little beneath, a process that has accelerated in the age of social media and selfies. It reflects on the individual, their understanding of self, and the disparity between appearance and reality. The figures in the paintings are one remove from reality, there lives filtered through screens, the black hole in one sense stands in for the reflective black mirrored screens on our phones and tablets where the virtual eclipses and replaces the real, resulting in an hallucinatory stillness." - Ian Cumberland.
