Riepenhoff's plein air series started as a conceptual practice -- an attempt to distance his roles as a maker and viewer. He paints at night using the light of an oil lamp, only to see the true colors of the painting the next morning. En Plein Air (Nikko, December, 21, 2016) was created during Riepenhoff's winter 2016 residency at Troedsson Villa in Nikko, Japan.
