Derived from Latin, caleo means warmth, an apt wording for its brightly hued palette that is emblematic of Berkenblit's oeuvre. Ellen Berkenblit paints explosive compositions that are celebrations of line, color, and form. Her paintings feature recurring characters -- among them cartoon-like female subjects, sharp high-heels, smatterings of floral bouquets, and a brightly hued tiger.
