Description

Zio Ziegler. Super Symmetry, 2016. Lithograph on Mohawk Superfine paper. 29 x 22 inches. Edition of 40 + 10 APs. $300. Super Symmetry is a globalized self-portrait composed with an eclectic range of patterns culled from around the world. Informed by Victor Hugo's musings on the seismic changes enacted by the advent of the printing press, Ziegler's distinct imagery recalls a pre-internet sense of self by replicating an antiquated visual language, inviting viewers to contemplate a universal zeitgeist by calling forth a deeper, primitive pattern recognition. About the Artist. Zio Ziegler (b. 1988, Mill Valley, CA) is best known for his intricately patterned paintings and large-scale murals that can be seen in major cities in the United States, Europe and Asia. His work reflects the diverse influence of late medieval and quattrocento painting, aboriginal African art and the European graffiti movement. Driven by intuition and depicted with a playful use of space and materials, his subject matter reflects the human condition, with reference to allegorical, mythical and artistic lineage.
