Rachel Whiteread has worked closely with East London's legendary AB Foundry to produce Pallet, a highly detailed, wall-mounted bronze sculpture. As is typical for Whiteread, the object she chose to cast was relatively mundane. In this instance it was a found piece of cardboard packaging that carried a grid of round impressions left by its previous contents. These circular marks continue a motif found in Whiteread's previous editions for Counter, Ringmark (2010) and LOndOn 2O12 (2011), and further her investigation of negative space and the traces of absence. Whiteread has created an integrated hanging bracket on the reverse of the edition. Two small grooves allow the work to be hung by two screws fixed directly to a wall. Pallet is Whiteread's fifth edition for Counter, and continues our longstanding relationship with the artist.
