Thorell creates exuberant compositions that are bursting at the seams with whimsical foliage reminiscent of Matisse and the occasional suggestion of a dream-like figure. Xanax Reef acts as a visual manifestation of subconscious chaos which Thorell whips into order; his fluid strokes of citrus carve out stalks, petals and fronds from a vibrant violet atmosphere.
