Like a palindrome without words or figures, Oculus Rift reflects and then cascades into abstraction through a variety of hues and levels of opacity. Borrowing its title from the virtual reality device, the vectors of this image call to mind an array of theatrical Klieg lights, revolutionary at the turn of the 20th century. Finley's use of color and transparency constructs an optical depth in his geometric paintings, but the artist works sculpturally as well. On first glance Oculus Rift appears completely abstract, but with closer inspection anthropomorphic qualities gain footing–much like Duchamp's refractions in Nude Descending a Staircase, No. 2.
