Description
Tony Cox. Persian Princess Mourning Her Peacock. 50 EDITION SIZE. 125.00 (USD) PRICE. THIS ARCHIVAL INKJET PRINT IS ACCOMPANIED BY A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY THAT IS SIGNED AND NUMBERED BY THE ARTIST. In the hands of Tony Cox, everyday found objects compose a deeply personal narrative and embroidery takes on a mysticism that alludes to the religions of Morocco, Spain and India. His colorful, geometric abstractions demonstrate a playful, handcrafted quality, while maintaining a spiritual edge -- perhaps to make up for the rituals and traditions he feels we lack as a country. In this case, the artist used sock holders, feathers, barrettes, mesh netting, fabric and paint to create a mask-like collage, a prime example from his series of work deemed “recycled relations”. Cox attributes his knack for sewing to his grandmother and collects materials from his travels, the results yielding a glimpse of the metaphysical -- and maybe even the supernatural.
