"I was inspired by John Gould's Victorian-era botanical coloured drawings, which seem more real than photographs," says Xenz of his meticulously-embellished new triptych of etchings, Bird and Flower. The prints were initially hand-etched into treated copper plates by the artist, printed using an Intaglio press, then tinted and finally hand-coloured by Xenz himself too. "I'm blessed with the opportunity to visit Execution Dock and create editions in this way," he adds. "The gold leaf and other embellishments exaggerate the exceptional nature and beauty these creatures possess." Bird and Flower Triptych is only available as a complete set of three, for the eminently reasonable price of £375.
