Description

Zevs | Liquidated London 2012. Boxed set of 14 screen prints with pale gold screen printed cover. Works screen printed on Arches 88 300gsm archival paper. Prints each measure 50.7cm x 35.85cm and are all signed by the artist. Also includes colophon page and artist's statement. Edition of 20. £2500 onwards. The 'Liquidated Logo' series is to Zevs what spot paintings are to Damien Hirst. Throughout his career the artist has recast many of the world’s most potent logos, ranging from fashion house Chanel's monogram to the former Soviet Union's hammer and sickle symbol. The politicised Parisian says the act "discloses the fragile nature of these supposedly immortal brands.". Liquidated London 2012, a comment on the rampant commercialisation of the imminent Olympic Games, features fourteen screen prints including the Olympic Rings and London 2012 Logo. In his accompanying artist's statement Zevs, a keen runner, points out that "this is not an attack on the Olympic Games itself, but highlights the redefining of its character by corporate giants.".
