This piece is one part of a diptych, from his recent exhibition, "In Other Words" at Trifecta Gallery. A perfect complement to his equally striking composition "I Tried Hard to Have a Father, but Instead I had a Dad", Casey Weldon's "She Should Have Been a Son" is also inspired by the Kurt Cobain discography - but in this distaff version of the parent/child situation, the viewer must decide if the focus of the work is the girl or (as the lyrics would indicate) the father who is voicing either disappointment in her or sadly reflecting on how some people are short-changed by the consequences of gender. The same tension that we noticed in the other work is present here. Indeed, it seems not only present, it seems stronger - as if seasoned by a rising sense of rage.
