My new print is out today. I’ve been working with French stencil artist C215 to create this mixed media series. The result is stunning, closer to an original work than a print, and lets just say that at this price, buyers will be bargaining. I have to say that I am proud to have worked with Christian (Guemy A.K.A. C215) as I admire his work, his sincerity and his views as an artist. The fact that his print works are so rare was very heartwarming too. But also, I am really happy that this print is making a real statement and has something to say. The kid in the portrait is a symbol. His name was Roney, and he has been killed in cold blood by the mafia of his favela in Sao Paolo. Since then many people from all over the world have opened their eyes to this sad reality, and understood that things need to be done. Among them, the CARF foundation, has been working actively in big cities of south america to help children getting out of the streets, 10% of the benefits from the sales of the Roney print will be given to them. It’s my way to participate and to say that if people were conscious of some of the problems our world is facing, and if every body was doing something to fight them, even little things, from time to time, maybe this would make a difference. Great artists and icons are receiving constant tribute, and most of the time they really deserve it and I respect them and that fact, but I also think we’ve seen enough of Marilyns, soup cans of all kinds, Obamas, Jacksons. It’s time to pay respect to artists with new visions and to icons that really deserve a change in our attitudes.
