This is my favorite in my Calaver (Skull) Series that I started back in 2007. This Image is very special to me because I created it with the intention of reclaiming certain roots from my bloodline that have either been denied to me or taken from me. Growing up Mexican-American along the border, identity has played a vital role in my life especially during my youth. As a young person, I realized that the main cultural / identity lanes I had access to were Catholicism (Spanish Influence), American Culture (Pop/Sub), and Mexican Culture (Mestizaje). As I got older and more critical, I began to notice that all of the ideologies or identities I had the easiest access to were all heavily influenced or brought into the forefront by colonization.
