Throughout his body of work, Hansel explores the unity of contradictory iconography and visual absurdity through his characteristic mash-up of traditional modes of European painting with comic-book imagery, typically finished with the inclusion of a trompe l'oeil. In the press release from his 2017 solo exhibition at yours mine & ours gallery, it is noted that, "in allowing these complex narratives to exist on the same canvas, one is reminded of the uncertainty that can exist when anything is possible but also, the creative freedom that can flourish if given the space.".
