Jay Miriam's first solo show in New York, Catch the Heavenly Bodies, closed yesterday at Half Gallery and she is included in Salt Talk, a group show presented by Auto Body, opening this weekend in Bellport, New York. Miriam's work is painted from memory, with cleverly devised compositions that sweep confidently in zig-zags across the canvas. Her female figures often occupy the entirety of the surface, simultaneously exposed and protected; intimate and aloof. The combination of remembrance and truth settles into a dreamlike realism in which the viewer is treated to what Time Out New York calls an "[updated] odalisque for the social media age.".
