The Ship of Fools is a classical allegory, and a theme that can be found in works by Heironymus Bosch, Dürer, and countless others. The allegory depicts a vessel taken over by force by those who are deranged, frivolous, or oblivious, and seemingly ignorant of their course. This print edition derives from one of my personal favorite paintings I've made in the past several years. The Ship of Fools theme resonated with me in relationship to the chaotic, confusing, and tumultuous times in which we are living. The contemporary human condition can seem like we are lost at sea, an overcrowded boat full of drooling fiends and hideous monsters, sailing towards our self-inflected doom. On the same token though, it's a hell of a ride, full of joy, beauty, and laughter. – Aaron Johnson.
