Sanctuary Skull is a work in a series, a series consisting of an entire 'deck' of cards in four suites; Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs. Sanctuary Skull is monotone, screenprinted in four layers of black and varying shades of grey –with a brilliant metallic gold design on the back of the card, making it a double-sided screenprint. It contrasts significantly from the other suites in the series which were all printed with bright, primary-coloured tones. Only one Silver Joker exists out of the entire series of over-sized playing cards, making it entirely unique. At the time of its launch in October 2015, it was described by the artist in an interview at Christie's, as - "the best skull of my career".
