Brian Calvin's solo show at Anton Kern last year was listed as a critics' pick in Artforum, the review describing the characters in his "clever and luminous" paintings as "emotionally distant and elusively cool." The California artist paints figures and faces with striking expressions rendered in a palette reminiscent of Alex Katz and David Hockney. Calvin's solo exhibition, "End of Messages," which spans work made between 1997 - 2014, is on view until September 27th at Le Consortium in Dijon, France and his work is featured in the group show "About Face" at Kayne Griffin Corcoran (Los Angeles) until August 29th.
