Dylan Bailey’s number paintings are created by tossing brass numbers used for home exteriors on paper to create a "recording in paint". In the instance of Untitled (Phthalo Green, Blue Shade), one of his more recent works, Bailey spray-painted over the objects, creating multi-layered areas of value. The abstract result is reminiscent of a photogram, the negative space only a specter of the physical object.
