"'Beauty Is More Than Skin Deep' is an adaption of my on-going 'split-portraits/masks' series and exploration of personal duality. The design merges the face of a woman with the face of a wolf, combining elements of both to create a chaotic yet controlled merging of two identities into one. By utilising the nature of hand-made screenprinting, the red layer (of the wolfs features) overlays the blue layer (of the woman's) to complete a unified set of eyes and therefore a unified identity. The final (secret-sixth) layer of the print is a human skull, printed in a 'transparent' gloss ink, which can only be seen in up-close & in shifting light, an implication that outside of the physical form and dimension we are all a collective consciousness. The style of this piece is based off of recent (collaged) works on paper and murals, particularly 'lone-wolf' mural painted in Downtown Miami during Art Basel, December 2013. All the combined elements of this print have been hand-drawn & hand-sprayed before being scanned to produce the 'separation' layers for the hand-screen-printing process." - Meggs.
