Bio

Recognized for his artistic gifts from an early age, Wardell Milan has had his own studio since the age of 4. During his graduate studies at Yale University (MFA 2004) Milan, focused primarily on photography, began to develop his interest in drawing, collages and three dimensional dioramas. Using symbols of beauty and glamour, violence and mortality, public figures and the superhuman, Milan engages our fictional approach on beauty, intelligence or athleticism as ‘indestructible’. His exhibition of photo-dioramas and abstract works is on view until December 29th at Savannah College of Art and Design. Milan has mounted solo shows at Louis B. James Gallery (New York, NY), 404 Gallery (Naples, Italy), Studio Museum in Harlem (New York, NY) and was recently included in group shows at the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia, PA), the Warhol Museum, (Pittsburgh, PA) and White Columns (New York, NY).
